Possibly Rev. James P. Selsor seated with hat in hand and wife Margaret Skaggs standing with hand on his shoulder At left is a picture that we believe to be of our GGG grandparents, the Rev. James P. Selsor and his first wife Margaret(e) Angeline Skaggs.  In case you are interested in the details of the Selsor-Skaggs lineage from our turn of the 20th century era in question, Capi has prepared a very thorough descendant report to help you understand how you might connect to the Selsor-Skaggs family.

In the event you know that you are related to our extended Selsor-Skaggs family and wish to import a GEDCOM file into your genealogy program, Capi has also prepared one especially for you (GEDCOM specification 5.5, UTF-8 encoding, zipped).

In the event you might need just a hint in order to help pair a half-forgotten name with a photo, Robert has extracted from this information a list of known Selsor-Skaggs family members, presented below under FAMILY MEMBERS in columns by order of first name.  This extraction lists three generations comprised of 121 people living over a period of 211 years; the first person born was Larkin Selsor in about 1790, and the last person known dying was Delora Muncy in 2000.

If you have arrived on this page directly via a search engine and find any of your ancestors listed below, please read our introduction by clicking on our picture frame icon in the upper left corner, and then see if you can recognize your ancestors in any of our mystery photos by clicking on the above links.  Our "Gibson Girls" would really appreciate your help.  Thank you!

◊  ADDENDUM  ◊

Found along with the Selsor-Skaggs mystery photos were several "postcard-style" pictures of children, all clearly labeled with first and last names. Capi's theory (with which Robert agrees) is that our mystery photos are unlabeled because they were ones that "everyone knew", and that these labeled photos are of children of neighbors or friends of our Selsor-Skaggs ancestors. The names written on these pictures are: Betty Barrett, Carl "Eychepp", Earl Lynch and Vera "Nappier".  After extensive searching, Capi couldn't find a surname even vaguely similar to "Eychepp", so we believe that it is a phonetic spelling and as such your guesses are welcome here.  Also, we believe the correct form of Vera's last name is Napier. We mention these names here in case someone who recognizes them might also recognize our mystery photos!

                                                                     ◊  PHOTO HOSPITAL  ◊

Given their advanced age - we suspect most are well over 100 years old - our patients are doing quite well (except for the six tintypes that were sent directly to the Photo Morgue).  Minor blemishes were left untouched.  There was some cropping to fit, but nothing grotesque, and no excessive bleeding occurred.  However, some patients did require additional treatment, via both the GIMP and Microsoft Digital Image, so that nothing unbecoming might appear on our site.  Specifically, Robert and Capi shared performing the following operations: #01 and #10 required Suntanning, #02, #04, #25 and #26 required Healing, William Wallace Brown, Jr. required Despeckling, #01 required Cloning, and #01 and #23 required Reconstructive Surgery.   Our patients' long-term prognosis?  Well, you can judge that for yourself!

LZ COLOPHON LZThe Selsor-Skaggs Family Mystery Photos were arranged in order of physical size from smallest to largest.  In deference to the page layout of the website some adjustments were made to that order, and then all remaining unidentified photos were numbered from #01 to #27.  All images were scanned at 300 dpi on a Hewlett-Packard PSC 1210xi All-In-One and saved in the TIFF format.  Image finalization was completed in the GIMP - as mentioned, our mystery photos are in fine condition and as such manipulation was kept to the minimum needed for presentation purposes; we did not want to inadvertently remove any evidence that might help identify a photo.  Images were then scaled down, with respect to their relative physical dimensions, to the smaller sizes displayed here in our page layouts.  JPEG format conversion was completed both in the GIMP and via the QuickImageCM contextual menu plug-in: the smaller images were saved at 97% quality, and the larger images available for download (which are full-size) were saved at 80% quality.  If you have need to study an image in a higher quality JPEG or TIFF format (or just think they're beautiful and want one anyway), they are available upon request, as are custom ultra-high resolution scans.
